23rd BSE case confirmed in Czech Republic
PRAGUE, Nov 29 (CTK) - A control test today confirmed the 23rd case of mad-cow disease BSE in the Czech Republic - in a nearly 5-year old cow of agricultural cooperative Krasna Hora in the Central Bohemian district of Pribram.

The cow is from the same cooperative where the 22nd BSE case was confirmed.

"This is the first case in the Czech Republic where another positive case appeared in a herd of cattle where BSE had been confirmed," State Veterinary Administration (SVS) spokesman Josef Duben said.

In connection with the new case, a further 34 cows will have to be slaughtered. This confirms experience from other countries that another sick animal is likely to appear in one herd where the same feed could have been used.

Over 842,000 animals have been tested in the Czech Republic for BSE since 2001 when the first case was discovered in the country.
