Had Brent checked in a dictionary, he would have found that "blue" does act as a noun. Go to the Concise Oxford English Dictionary, 11th edition, for citations.

Brent's comments about "he shot an arrow into the blue" are not on point. Blue in this instance is a metaphor for sky, and as such is a noun.

If one talks about colors, they can indeed become nouns, as in the primary colors are red, yellow and blue.

P.S. Lighten up and smell the roses whatever their color.
