The words "flower" and "flour" are homophones (sound alike, spelled differently, with different meanings).
The point of this joke is that Tom (that typical insensitive male) homed in on his wife's favorite "flour" (Robin Hood brand), rather than her favorite "flower." Not a knee-slapper, but I'm sure the ladies enjoyed seeing the male stereotype reinforced.
