Hi Tricia...I am an Ovarian Cancer stage 4 patient, and I advise your friend to have the debalking operation (to get rid of as much cancer as possible).. and then have the 'standard' 6 treatments of chemo, which is usually Taxol/Carboplatin. I was Dx in Feb.04 and am still fighting this cursed thing, but feeling well..eating well, and enjoying life.I feel that getting rid of the cancer is a 'must'...after that, then one can pursue other means of fighting it. My Doctor did tell me of one of his patients who chose not to pursue medical treatment, but more relying on religious means of combatting this disease, and while I am a believer, I feel that this lady should have gone with medicine first. Unfortunately, she is not here now.
I know the medical treatment can have unpleasant side affects, but if it prolongs one's life, then I'll go along with that.
Wishing both you, and your friend all the best...She's lucky to have a caring person as you seem to be, as her friend.
