actually, strep throat is not caused by a virus. it's caused by a bacterium called
streptococcus. in the case of strep, it is advisable to take antibiotics to clear out the
infection, but thinking that viruses are a reason to take antibiotics is wrong.
antibiotics kill bacteria. antibiotics do not kill viruses, and taking antibiotics for viral
infections makes existing antibiotics useless. this is very bad and in fact antibiotics should
be avoided unless absolutely necessary because of this.
