My understanding of hypnosis practices is that they are not standardized. Therefore, there's no way to know whether it is the hypnosis itself, a "placebo" effect, or some other intervening factor that would cause the smoking cessation. Specific behavioral modification techniques and chemotherapeutic approaches have been tested and have more proven track records in this difficult-to-break habit. I'm also more than a little skeptical when clinical practitioners offer "lifetime guarantees."
