Dr. Klaper, I've been vegan for 10 years and was diagnosed two years ago with a severe hypothyroid condition (TSH 42). I have done Armour (of course, derived from pork), levoxyl and cytomel, including Wilson's Syndrome time release T3. I've gone from TSH 42 to 2.8 on 100 mcg Forrest's Levoxyl generic, and I'm now taking 200 mcg as well as with cytomel. Along the way, I've come to realize that I am gluten intolerant and lactose intolerant. So, I follow a gluten free vegan diet that consists mainly of fruits and vegetables and have been having lactose and gluten type reactions to my medications. In the last couple of weeks, I've found references that state that the levoxyl and clones may well contain lactose and gluten as "fillers" which fits right in with my reactions. Cytomel is listed as containing gelatin. I'm two years into fighting what has been a pretty major battle with this autoimmune disease and I'd like to win without the help of pork, if possible. Is there an option for me? I'm very open to naturopathic as well as allopathic solutions.
