This is the most sensible thing I have heard on these pages. Drug based therapies exist because of capitalism. The drug companies are only interested in curing a disease if the cure is a marketable product. Sadly the same is true of a lot of alternative therapies. The word "holistic" has been bandied around so much that it is meaningless. A lot of alternative therapies simply sell you a quick fix cure for your symptoms without attempting to seriously identify the underlying causes. It is perfectly possible to test a multi faceted cure, such as cleaning your home, eating a balanced diet, and zapping your parasites. If it works more often than would be expected by chance, then it has stood up to a scientific scrutiny. It would do alternative medicine a lot of good if more therapies were tested in this way, instead of just being promoted with hype. Sadly, there are a small number of charlatans and egotistical nutters who give alternative medicine a bad name. Two weeks ago, I was at a new age festival, where several people were severely injured when a gas cannister exploded in the night. There was a widespread belief that "spiritually aware" people with good karma don't get ill or injured, which had made many people reckless. Worse still, despite the presence of a "healing area" with many spiritual healers, there was no one available who knew any basic first aid (nobody asked me, I was asleep at the time). The burns victims were treated with an inneffective herbal ointment (instead of cold water - burning flesh continues to burn long after the accident), and it was several hours before they were taken to hospital because no one was prepared for this kind of emergency.
