For the last 15 years, many people have asked me about taking fish oil supplements. And I've always said it wasn't necessary. Now, in the New England Journal of Medicine, two large studies have reported that fish oil supplements (1,000 milligrams daily) do not reduce the risk of death from heart attack or stroke, the risk of diabetes, nor do they increase memory or cognitive abilities in older people without dementia - compared to a control group taking a placebo. I well-balanced plant-based diet can provide all the omega fatty acids a person needs.
