A little background. I followed a MOSTLY vegan diet from 2000 to 2010. At one point during that time I'd followed the plan perfectly for a month. The family then decided pizza was in order and I couldn't resist it. I'd had very clear, lucid thinking I attributed to my diet. The day after the pizza, I had a "spell" where my thinking got noticeably less clear and I couldn't remember the name of the guy I was working with, even right after asking him his name and being told. That will forever be known as "The cheese incident". It was also a bit scary. I attributed that to the flood of animal fat rushing into the pristine brain plain. Cloggin' the noggin, if you will.

Fast forward to today. Last night, I had another "spell", this time it involved confusion and memory lapse. For instance, I don't remember being confused or the ambulance ride to the hospital. All we found out at the hospital was my blood pressure is high (somewhere in the 160-170/100 range, if I remember correctly). A CAT scan (that I don't remember) showed no stroke, but it was suspected that I'd had a "mini-stroke". They wanted to admit me for observation and to see a neurologist, but I opted to go home as my cognitive abilities were returning. BTW I'm a 55 Y/O male.

From this point, I plan to go back to my vegan diet and to do it better. I can only surmise that the excess animal fats running around my bloodstream are causing some grief. Lesson learned.

The hospital seemed to have run it's course of options. Based on the meals they brought me, I think coming home to a better diet will serve me better than the drugs designed to combat the food they wheel in. Breakfast was a southern omelet, home fries, bran muffin, and cereal with milk. Lunch was some kind of meat and mashed potatoes with gravy, a small cup of vegetables, and pie (coconut cream?). I ate the breakfast, except the cereal, but was still full when lunch arrived. Just had the coffee before coming home. The point is, that diet doesn't make sense for somebody in my condition.

I guess I don't really have a good reason to share this. I'm pretty sure my decision to check myself out will meet some disapproval. I guess this is a bit extreme in taking responsibility for my own health care, but I really feel it is strictly a diet related issue and can only be truly healed with diet.

Regards,
Beale
