The amount of sodium listed in the Nutritional Facts label is just what it says - the amount of sodium - not salt. Each 100 grams of salt provides about 40 grams of sodium. (The ratio is 2.5g sodium to 1g salt) Recommendations for limiting salt intake are usually expressed milligrams of sodium. About 3/4 of the sodium consumed in most developed nations comes from processed foods and restaurant meals.
