Almost all treatments and diagnostic techniques carry some risks. But the benefits of most far outweigh the potential harm.

If there is a valid reason to have a scan, whether for calcium or another type, it would be preferable to use a non-invasive method to determine if a situation that requires further attention exists.

That decision is individual and should be based on many more factors that can be discussed here.
