There is plenty of evidence in the real world that low hdl is not a risk in populations with low ldl and total cholesterol who are eating plant based diets. Okinawans, Tarahumara Indians are just two examples where the population has hdl levels in the 20's and have little or no heart disease, not to mention exemplary longevity. Tarahumara's have been studied extensively over the years as have other populations that fit this profile. For some reason these facts are ignored or forgotten over and over.
