I agree with Herman and Ricardo re Esselstyn's diet.

By personal experience I am also leary of high doses of statins.
Vytorin in particular.

Following Esselstyn's diet one found that one could gradually pill-
split simvastin and keep total cholesterol under 150. Presently on
13mg Simvastatin per day.

Which mitigates the chances of side-effects. Side-effects that can be
very unpleasant - leg muscle pains and more. Particularly at high
doses. Against which a cardiologist called statins miracle drugs -
because he was no longer coming in regularly to deal with patients
who had suffered heart attacks.

But the other side of that are horror stories of statin side-effects.
CoQ10 is recommended. Correct? No idea. But at least it seems to
have no side-effects. Useful? Can't say.

Were it me, I'd be moving heaven and earth to change cholesterol by
diet alone -- Esselstyn's diet alone -- and thereby not need statins.

YMMV.
