If the product accurately has 10% or less calories from fat, it's OK - as far as a reversal diet is concerned. Olestra is known to cause diarrhea (anal leaking) and cramping. It also has been shown to rob the body of carotenoids. Carotenoids are carotenes that occur in yellow vegetables like carrots, squash, and corn. They are stored in the liver and converted to vitamin A. The loss of these nutrients can cause an increase incidence of cancer, heart disease, and blindness. People are buying Olestra products, but they also keep buying tobacco products. As they say in road signs in Britain: "You have been warned".
