I've read several times on this discussion board that lower-HDL levels in a person with low total cholesterol (< 150) isn't too much of a concern. I've also heard Dr. Dean Ornish say the same thing. I asked a physician about this, and he said, that he disagrees with this. He stated that HDL is an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. I don't know what to make of this, and I am confused. So I ask you, Dr. Pinckney, send me a link or reference to a peer-reviewed study that supports the theory that low-HDL in people with low total cholesterol isn't problematic. I hear Ornish and you say this, but I want some solid, scientific evidence. Thank you very much.
