With 20 MG Lipitor + 1500 MG Niaspan my lipid profile looked as follow

T-Chol = 104
HDL = 45
LDL = 47
TGL = 59
I attributed those excellent numbers to McDougall, Esslestyn, Ornish diet and thought that without Meds my total Cholesterol would be somewhere in the range of 130, which is what they claim, they claim that the diet such as one recommended here should put you well below 150 without statins.

Yes, the diet and excercise did lower TC from 230 to 166 and I lost about 50 lbs in about 9 months.

I cut out Lipitor and Niaspan and redid my lipid profile. I'm disappointed with the numbers

Without Meds

T-Chol = 166
HDL= 34
TGL = 79
LDL = 116
Let's say for the moment I'm not worried about TGL(which is anyway not really high) and HDL( we know that it may be lower when total Cholesterol is lower)

I assume here that Niaspan was giving me 10 point boost in HDL and Lipitor reduced total cholesterol by about 60 points.

Has anyone tracked their numbers with and without statins? What can be done to lower the numbers below 150 without statins?

I'm following low fat diet similar to one recommended here and excercise 4-5 days a week.
