Subject:         What about Sweetleaf Stevia with Inulin Fiber?
Date: June 16, 2008 at 10:40 am PST

I have been using SweetLeaf Stevia with inulin fiber to sweeten ice tea, coffee and cereal from time to time. Because it contains no saccharin, aspartame, refined sugar, fructose or high glycemic fillers of any kind, and has zero calories and a zero glycemic index, it would seem to me that it could be used safely to sweeten items on the reversal diet without fear of realizing what Dr. Esselstyn stated would happen, when he responded about sugar use in his one post dated May 12: QUOTE:"Sugar is not an integral part of the Esselstyn program to reverse heart disease. It is included in the book for an occasional treat such as on pancakes or in a dessert. I would not favor maple syrup daily on cereal. Use raisins and or a banana or other fruit. Too much sugar spikes blood glucose resulting in an insulin surge which stimulates the liver to produce more cholesterol."

Can you tell me if I am correct in my thinking specifically about the regular use of Sweetleaf Stevia with Inulin Fiber - specifically as it relates to this issue of spiking blood glucose resulting in an insulin surge and stimulating the liver to produce more colesterol? Would it have or not have the same adverse effect as the other sweetners? And if not, then can one consume too much Stevia or would it frankly be a non-concern on the reversal diet?

Thank you!
