Phil, let me add a comment on diet strategies used by Dr. Esselstyn and other doctors (Ornish, K Lance Gould, etc.) that started long time ago recommending Vegetarian diets to heart problems pacients and that may were not using BART. The information I have is that these doctors observed that populations when were just vegetarian had few or no heart deceases. Much of these observations came from their practices and/or information like China Study, where large groups of citizens of China when just eating plant based food were most heart decease free. Bart may just confirmed that vegetarian diet makes "endothelial cells, which comprise the single cell layer lining our arteries, to manufacture nitric oxide. Nitric oxide is the strongest vasodilator in the body. It causes blood vessels to enlarge, prevents blood flow from being sticky or sluggish, and inhibits arterial plaque formation" all this in the words of Dr. Esselstyn.
