Hello Dr. Neal

I saw your response to some queries on web site related to high cholesterol problem.

My blood test about 3 and half month back showed following

Cholesterol 223
HDL 24
Fat 599

In addition had high values of ALT(GPT) and y-GTP.

I had to admit it might be due to my lifestyle and eating habits. I did not do regular exercise, and drink alcohol daily in moderate quantities for almost 3 years.

The test for above result was done in Oct and I continued with similar life style for another 3 months till I get my reports on 5th Jan. Since 5th Jan.

1) I stopped alcohol altogether.

2) I started 45 min. of brisk walk everyday morning. In addition I walk to my office and back home daily (another 30 minutes).

3) In addition to above I started 1 hour of badminton game every weekend starting this weekend.

4) I had cut down my diet by almost 30% and have very less intake of fat and cholesterol items. I mostly eat vegetables and fruits.

5) I am vegetarian and do not eat any meat or even egg.

6) With the measures above I happened to reduce my weight by 3 kg. in 2 weeks.

I am quite worried about low HDL and also about others and would like to know

1) If the above mentioned measure will help me get the values back to normal.

2) What else shall I do?

3) I do not want to take any medicines and am willing to change my lifestyle further to stay healthy.

Many thanks in advance.

Warm Regards
