Subject: High triglycerides and mitral valve prolapse

At my last check up my triglycerides were 270, cholesterol 220, ratio was 4.5.
I also have a slight mitral valve prolapse.
How should I eat for these? From my understanding, excess carbs increase triglycerides and I also have hypoglycemia so the extra carbs don't help that either.
Dr. said to follow low fat diet and that was about all the info I got. There's no dietitian in this area (very rural) so I don't have help there.

Suggestions?
Thank you,
Ann
