I had almost the identical experience with lipitor and the ensuing side effect that was diagnosed as polymyalgia rheumatica. The treatment with prednisone has itself caused some horrible side effects; puffiness, weight gain etc. I feel I would have been better off without never having taken the lipitor or any other statin drug. I'm sure the elevated cholesterol could have been handled with a more innocous treatment.
