Tom:
Just read your web posting re: Lipitor. The news today (8/7/01) is full of a recall of the Bayer product Baycol and the suggestion that it causes the condition known as rhabdomyolysis.
I am a 45 years old male and have been using Lipitor for over a year. I am currently taking 20 mg. per day, an increase from my original dosage of 10 mg. The past few months I have experienced severe pain in my calves, ankles (especially the achilles tendon) and feet. The last three weeks I have been experiencing pain in my right elbow. I thought it was due to my pitching BP to my son's Little League team and my lousy golf game, but the condition has not improved. Coincidentally, this past week I was on vacation and forgot my Lipitor. My legs were much better, but the arm and elbow condition persisted.
I enjoy my beer/wine/cocktails, but not to the point where it is a problem. My HDL and LDL levels have improved dramatically, to the point where my doctor has told me that it is ok to splurge with an occasional ice cream (God, I miss it so!) treat. I accepted the invitation but now I find myself unable to digest the treat I loved so well. Within an hour of eating ice cream I better have a bathroom nearby. Any digestive problems on your part?
Is it the Lipitor, or is this just middle age! God, I hope it's the Lipitor because old age is really going to suck.
