I just came across this board while looking for Lipitor side-effects. Below I have pasted a message that I left on another such message board a week or two ago. Lipitor is safely taken by perhaps 95%, but the other 5% sometimes really suffer!
If this is of interest, please contact the provided link.
Thanks, Gene
"I was on Lipitor (20 mg/day) for several years. A new associate of my Primary Provider upped the dose to 40 mg maybe last fall. I was simply to take two of the 20 mg tabs a day. As time went on and a new script was written, by the time it got back to me, it was for 40 mg tabs (the intent), but to be taken at _2_day, or 80 mg/day. At this point IU do not know if the error was made by the doctor writing the script or the pharmacy filling it.
This did not take very long to put me flat on my back (although of course I did not know it at first). I am a 57 year old male---overweight but fairly active, etc. The pain had me at times completely disabled and, of course, the doctors just kind of hemmed and hawed until I saw a Rheumatologist who prescribed Prednisone. And yes, we all know of the potential problems in that direction! But at least I am functioning pretty normally now, while we try to figure out where to go from here, and to see if the pain will pass. I took myself off the Lipitor over the 4th of July, at which time I spent 3 - 4 days flat on my back. Just hurt too danged much to move!
I have already started weaning off the Prednisone, and hope that I can continue to do so."
