I am a 58 year old and started on Lipitor November 2000. Previous to beginning Lipitor I tried several eating plans (low fat, soy, etc.) to no avail. A friend talked me into trying the Atkins Diet and my LDL cholesterol dropped 27 points in 6 weeks....But my doctor still wanted me to start Lipitor because he thought my LDL was too high even though the LDL/HDL ratio was very good. I took the Lipitor and my LDL cholesterol dropped dramatically in 3 months. However, I have had constant leg aches, shoulder aches and pain in my right hip. About 6 weeks ago I got what I thought was bursitis but it is getting no better. The pain travels around my right shoulder, sometimes across my back shoulder blade and occasionally feels like "tennis elbow". So, I am trying to eat a very low fat Atkins (I still have a good HDL/LDL ratio, take Lipitor every other day for a while and see what happens. I just had a fasting blood lab and everything was okay except my lipoprotein (A) which has nearly doubled since last November. I am in the process of finding out what to do about that now...I guess it will be niacin supplements.

Is anyone like me...I hate taking medicine!
