HDL is called "good cholesterol" because it helps remove the lipids fractions that cause plaque and blockages. LDL, on the other hand, does the opposite.

While the most compelling tesearch indicates that total cholesterol over 150 leaves one at risk for a heart attack, the higher the HDL is in relation to total cholesterol, the less the risk.

Our recommendation is do what one can to raise HDL while altering one's lifestyle to get total cholesterol under 150.
