Each person may respond to heart disease reversal programs in different ways.

In a lifestyle program for reversal, typically plaque and blockages can be reduced, increasing blood flow. Regular aerobic exrcise can also help increase collateral arterial flow, actually growing one's own by-pass. In addition, the heart can become more efficient, which lessens demand for more oxygenated blood on exertion. Any one of these, or any combination, can reduce the risk of heart attack (and stroke).

Arteries do not typically become significantly bigger, but allow more blood to flow through them.

There are some illustration of arterial blockages on the Healing Heart Foundation website (link at the top of this page).
