YES - this sort of diet plan can cause high triglycerides in some people - e.g. my husband. They key, apparently, is not to eat any REFINED products. You mentioned that you avoided simple sugars - does that mean you ate whole grains - i.e. the whole grain, like wheatberries as opposed to whole wheat flour? Apparently even whole wheat flour, being refined, acts much like simple sugars. Also, too much fruit or starchy vegetables can have the same effect.
