A reversal program after by-pass surgery is the same as one for prevention and reversal of heart disease before surgery. After, it is even more important to follow it faithfully, as the same factors that lead to the need for the by-pass will continue to plug up the bypasses and other arteries unless lifestyle changes are made. Please see the Healing Heart website for details.

With a family history of heart disease and high blood pressure at 26, you can reverse the odds and lower your risk, or you can eat your heart out - of time. There are three facets to the program: a very low fat diet which avoids animal products, regular aerobic exercise and stress management.

So yes, becoming a vegetarian is a very good idea. But french fries and mayonnaise and other high fat foods are also vegetarian - so you'll have to learn how to reduce the fat as well.

A good idea at this point (for you and your father) is to read a book on the subject of reversing heart disease. Not surprisingly, I recommend my own book, the Healthy Heart Handbook, and also highly recommend Dr Dean Ornish's Program for Reversing Heart Disease. Our website has links to these and other books.
