Yeah, my mom and dad talked me into this one about 2-3 years ago. I'm not big on fad diets but I did try this with them. Strangest reaction I ever had to dieting. Not only did I fight hypoglycemia the whole week I was on the diet religiously, I also experienced anger, resentment and despair. I soon learned from others that were on the diet that my experience was not unique. I told my parents that A.) If this was a healthy diet, I would not feel this bad and B.) If this was how one had to eat/live to obtain "optimum" health, I'd happily die young. The way one eats does contribute to an individual's perception of their quality of life. From my perspective, the process of following this diet and the almost constant hunger I experienced greatly diminished my quality of life. I also found that the response from many diehard Zoners that I "must be doing something wrong" to be infuriating, given the tremendous effort I put into following the system "to the letter." Incidently, all those Zoners are no longer Zoners today. They couldn't sustain the deprivation. I am a firm believer that enjoyment of one's diet, among other things, is essential to emotional wellbeing. Dr. Sear's concept of micro-managing food as if it were medication completely stripped the joy out of eating. Additionally, I spent most of the week feeling as if I was starving.
