I, like a lot of people here, feel very liberated by the concept of a low fat, high bulk, plant based diet which lets you eat until you're full - not until you have eaten your "portion". Portion control, aka as calorie counting or FDH (eat only half) was what kept me from even trying to lose weight, because I knew I wouldn't be able to sustain it.
Once I began to recognize when I was hungry for real food and discovered that there are a large number of health sustainting foods out there which can be eaten pretty much ad libitum, I felt totall FREE of my obsessions with food.
Ignoring the hunger drive can make you feel like a a drug addict on cold turkey. Feeding yourself the most satisfying experience.
Many of the commercially prepared "low fat" foods are actually non-fodds, because they lack all the valuable nutrients of real foods. And - worst of all - most of them aren't even low fat. There are still lots of 90% fat free foods out there which are actually 50% or more fat (by calories).
Ok, off my soapbox.
