In western and industrialized countries, many health problems are due to consuming too much protein.

Unless one is a marathoner or triathlete, recommended protein consumption is between 15% and 20% of calories.

Almost all legumes (beans, lentils, peas) are high in protein, and most have oligosaccharides that are not always metabolized in the lower intestine. The result is gas, which can be embarrassing, but is not toxic.

There are many varieties of white beans and they vary in protein content, but none are considered toxic when properly cooked.

A few varieties of beans are high in fat (notably soy) and should be consumed in moderation, but most beans are an excellent source of nutrition and fiber, and can be consumed often.

My recommendation: eat the beans you like the most, don't worry about getting enough protein, rather be careful about getting to much.

We always recommend getting nutrients from whole, unprocessed foods, rather than concentrates, extracts, pills or powders.
