In Reply to: Longest Survivors on a Program posted by Mark on April 13, 2009 at 4:29 pm:
Having followed Dean Ornish's program to reverse my own heart disease, and later having worked with him at his residential retreats, I am a firm believer in the importance of stress management as an integral part of a reversal program. It's an important part of my book, The Healthy Heart Handbook (see the link below for the entire book online). When I worked with the Ornish group, I met survivors, some who had bypass surgery and/or stents, that had been over 20 years on the plan and were thriving. That was over ten years ago and I have heard about some who are still doing well, surviving over 30 years. I personally know of people who participated in my support groups here in Hawaii over 15 years ago, some of whom had bypass surgery more than once, who are still vibrantly healthy and active. The Ornish organization, PMRI, may have more data.
