Mark, For people without heart problems the formula to get heart rate is: subtract your age from 220 and for aerobic exercise the heart rate would be then between 60 % and 80% of the result of 220 minus age. Exemple for a 70 year old person the range would be between 90 and 120 Heart rates. MD would see if what is right for each healthy person. People with heart problems should initially be more carefully, having in mind the above recommendation of Dr. Pinckney. The major benefit of aerobic exercise is to help to develop collaterals veins that act like natural bypasses of the sick artheries. Many books mention these natural bypasses. Other benefits include: weight loss, that helps to lower blood presure. My blood presure with a loss of 30 pounds went from 14X9 to 11.5X6.5 with medication at the end of 9 months and at 12 months without medication. MD asked me to stop beta blocker ! I suspect that exercises with low cholesterol act also to speed up the removal of fat from the inner part of the artheries (endothelium). One of the MD that I know and that believe on reversal, thinks that exercise is 60 % and diet is 40 % of the factors that make reversal posible.
