Subject:         Heart rate during exercise

Dr. Pinckney: First let me thank you for the advice I've been following for well over a year now, to keep my heart rate up for 15 minutes during exercise. I think it does produce better results than my previous 10 min. periods, spread out over the day.

Due to the mild case of cystic fibrosis I have, and the bronchitis it started producing 16 yrs ago, at age 53, I've lost about half of my aerobic capacity. My question then is, if I exercise at a rate to maintain my heart rate at about 110-120 bpm, am I getting the full cardio-vascular benefit of exercise? I would think I am.
