I would like to replace my lawn with a ground cover that doesn't grow higher than 8" (town ordinance), is soft enough to walk on, and is, most importantly, not toxic to my dogs or the neighbor's cats. Does anyone know:
1)how do I get rid of the existing grass? I don't want to use a toxic pesticide that could hurt my animals or the groudnwater. Someone told me to use vinegar. But will that irreparably damage the soil?
2) what sorts of groundcover would work best? I live in NC - hot, wet, clay soil, if that helps.
thanks!! As I watch all my neighbors burning gasoline, and generating noise and emissions in their riding mowers, and using gallons of water on the yards, I have to wonder just why we all feel we have to have lawns. Gee, people will do just about anything to get away from talking to their spouse!
