around AND over them -- like a cage -- is what I want to do with some of my plants. However, the cost of doing this might be a problem.
I am tempted to enclose my whole main triple-wide garden bed in a strong frame covered with chicken wire, but husband thinks doing this would be too expensive and too much trouble. This triple-wide bed is a little over 18 x 12 feet -- including the cinderblocks (with herbs/flowers/veggies growing in their holes) that encircle the whole thing. The triple-wide bed is planted in a combo of the biointensive and the square foot gardening methods and has two very narrow paths between the 3 three wide growing areas. (In other words, it does NOT have three rows, it HAS three LONG AND WIDE AREAS with veggies planted as close as they can be plated in "all directions" -- not just "lengthwise".)
BUT -- you can you just imagine how much fun it would be to watch the raccoons and squirrels climbing up to and searching all over the top of it for a way in -- if I ever did enclose my garden this way!
