Rebecca hi There are some excellent plans in Bill Mollison's Introduction to Permaculture (Tagari Press). At first glance the book can be a bit overwhelming but it's really useful as a core text in the area of permaculture gardening. He also includes house plans! He gives some examples of bed patterns to fit various spaces, why & how to include water in your garden plan, using vegetation to fullfil more than just one purpose (as chicken forage, windbreaks, fencing etc). Also useful may be Linda Woodrow's The Permaculture Home Garden (Penguin) - she talks a lot about not just companion planting, but guild planting as well, to ensure continual supplies of crops all year round. Both these publications are Australian, and very useful in the subtropical climate, but the basic concepts would work anywhere. Both Bill and Linda use mandala systems or variations of them, but Linda also talks a lot about using pots in limited spaces, which is great for us city dwellers. Good luck.
