Don't get me wrong, I vote for Dems when I have to because there is some miniscule lip service payed to progressive ideals, but they have sold out almost as bad as the republicans. Third party runs like Nader force the parties to acknowledge important issues. The last thing the Dems want is a strong green party, so they hijack enough of their issues to keep them weak. They think they are keeping power from the greens, but it's not about power (regardless of what people 'think' about Nader). It's about the issues, and the greens are successfully forcing a national debate on issues because of people like Ralph Nader.
