My view is that the mere threat of being caught speeding will cause people to reduce their speed. Don't tell me that doesn't work, because my own driving changed while the cameras were deployed. And it was apparent to me that the traffic around me also adhered to posted speed limits. I don't need statistics to tell me that things were safer out there and the threat to my safety was reduced. Regarding communications privacy, I would rather the NSA sift through my harmless exchanges with family members if it enables them to reduce the threat of a terrorist plan which might injure or kill those family members. It may be "unusual" thinking; but as Spock would say, it's logical.
