Subject:         The Great Ethanol Hoax

Here's a very good summary on this hoax.

He doesn't mention that while burning ethanol in an internal combustion engine does produce less carbon monoxide, it does produce more smog. That's because it's very volatile, and reacts with nitrogen oxides and sunlight to produce smog. I do believe it's use was recently outlawed in Atlanta, in the summer, for that very reason. I'll have to double check that.
