It's not the "support of the shah." We selected and installed him, trained his secret police.

We didn't "support" the Shah, we created him. We overthrew their democratically-elected government, we killed hundreds of people (none of the hostages was killed), we created unseen damage, and put in the Shah (who didn't want the job) so that we could keep those people enslaved.

When the people overthrew the Shah, we should have been on their side. Instead, as usual, we sided with the forces of murder and intimidation.

The Iranians are one of the more advanced Middle East cultures. Yeah, they have the religious fanatics with too much power, but that's a direct result of the US's crimes. There's no way a Kohemni could take over if the US hadn't subverted their democracy for self interested reasons.

You need to read the book, learn the history. The average Iranian sure knows it.

By your reasoning, you're saying that the Iraqis and the US both share blame for the awful situation in Iraq today, for the 1-million plus innocent murders there. That would be ridiculous though.

As for another "shah" or "Saddam" being installed in Iraq, it's not all that unlikely, except that the country is splitting into three parts, probably as Bush's handlers had planned all along. Kurdistan just made a deal with the Hunts of Texas, friends of Bush, so the smart money says Iraq is falling apart.

The only reason to put in a Shah or support a Saddam is to make sure we get the oil we want on our terms. Left to democracy, the people there won't accept our terms.

You need to read that link I provided, and read the book. It will give you the perspective you lack. The hostages were taken because of terrible, awful actions by the US against Iran. To compare taking those hostages to the murder and harm inflicted by the US on Iran...there's no comparison. And only people ignorant of history and facts would think there was.
