Illegal immigration is so wrong on so many levels. My biggest complaint is how it affects the poor, undocumented workers as well as legal US residents. Undocumented workers are hired simply because they will work for far less than legal US residents will.
Also, wages for lower paying jobs are depressed for legal US residents. I have this strange belief that even those who perform menial work should still be able to earn a living wage.
Because the system is so broken undocumented workers are forced to resort to criminal means to even get hired in some cases (stolen Social Security numbers, etc.)
A proper Guest Worker program could address so much, not the least of which would be to give the Guest Workers some measure of human dignity.
