Why would I want to warm your heart? Call it compassionate conservatism. You will love these numbers. "The U.S. Department of Energy roadmap for solid state lighting anticipates 137-lm/W white power LED performance by 2015 [62]. At such a level, the worldwide opportunity for energy savings—if all conventional light sources were replaced by LEDs—approaches ~1000 TW h/year. This is a savings of ~$100 B/year and corresponds to an annual reduction in carbon emissions of about 200M tons [63]. While it is not realistic to expect full replacement of existing lamp technology within a short time horizon, even penetration by a fraction could have a profound impact on reducing the rate of global energy consumption." M.R. Krames et al., "Status and Future of High-Power Light-Emitting Diodes for Solid-State Lighting," Journal of Display Technology, vol. 3, p. 171, 2007.
