You're absolutely right. High paid laborers, tradesmen, and other workers don't take kindly to their employers asking them to take a cut in pay, to avoid moving the whole operation overseas, or to Mexico. Once one company achieves an economic advantage by moving to low wage areas, all their competitors are forced to do likewise. That's how we've gotten to where we are. Maybe you know what the equivalent wage is to have a manufacturer stay here. When compared to China, I suspect it's around $6/hr, factoring in shipping costs. For service jobs requiring no shipping, it might be as low as $3/hr. The only way to stem outsourcing overseas in those cases is government intervention. I don't see either party ready to do that.
