In 1980 when I first returned to the USA from abroad, I had a neighbor who was a welder recently moved here from Michigan. He complained that "back home" a welder could earn $40.00 an hour, but here he s was able to earn only $12 an hour. I asked him, then, why he did not go back to Michigan. He replied, without a hint of irony, that there are no jobs in Michigan. I maintain he is unable to connect the dots, and I suspect, Young Jacko, you have a problem connecting them too.
