Not long ago, my husband and I got to hear Jim Wallis speak. (author of God is Not a Democrat or a Republican, and speaker on a more inclusive Christian morality) He mentioned Rick Warren as a Christian leader who was open to expanding the view of morality beyond abortion and gay marriage, one who really cared about poverty, injustice, and other problems that Christ cared about. My guess is that this writer does not like that idea, that he wants to do harm to Rick Warren because Warren is moving beyond the strict limits set by conservative Republican Christians. I hope others will see how false the charges are and continue to support Warren and a view of morality that truly speaks to the concerns of Christ, not the limited morality certain groups have tried to foist on us.
