Thanks! I will need to remember the start out slower tip for my next half marathon. I started out slow, but then sped up because I was getting annoyed at people stopping to walk in front of me constantly. And I felt good, I felt like I was going slower but only knew I was too fast by my watch. Yet I didn't slow down. I hit the 8 mile mark at one second over my 10K pace. And then I felt like I was going to die and suddenly my goal moved from time to finishing (just like you said!). Except I refused to let myself stop to walk since I knew I'd never start up again. I came across the finish line white as a ghost and ready to collapse, but somehow managed to make it in 2:12 (still 10+ per mile though). Unfortunately my new shoes weren't broken in yet, so I did have to wear the old ones. But it was okay. My feet don't require much cushion, they just hate getting blistered from new shoes.
