Sounds like shin splints, which are more common among us flat-footed folk. You'll have to take it easy 'til they heal. Can you do water-based exercise such as aqua-jogging or swimming in the meantime? As far as I know, you have to let shin splints heal fully before you'll be able to resume a full strength walking or running routine.
I am not an expert. Do a search online for shin splints.
