Whole grains, beans, lots of vegetables, and fruit are your best bet. Cut out dairy (or most of it), refined flours (breads, etc.), and sugar, and you should see a big difference over time, in your weight and in how you feel in general.

You can come up with several meal combinations to use (such as (1) rice, beans, and steamed vegetables, (2) baked potato with salsa and a big salad -- as two dinner choices) and mix and match to suit your mood of the day, time constraints on any particular day, etc.

Add some moderate exercise (even a 20-minute daily walk will make a big difference) and you will definitely make progress.
